Goal is to send document to printing but printing is started only after i authenticate myself on printer.ĭo anyone know how to set it up properly? After enabling authentication printing could be done using printer's public user, but public user is not an option any longer. I have Konica Minolta printer set up with user authentication (by login and password) accesed via IP address and i can't find any option to add user credintials on Mac site. Why must this be such an ordeal? I mean it’s happened so much that it’s hard to not assume that it’s by design for whatever reason. This has been an ongoing issue for years but this time I can’t fix it. The printer also worked fine under the users old profile but we had to move them to another and I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling it with every compatible driver on the system but they all do the same thing, in the past when this has happened (either as the result of installing a new printer or just at random with one that was previously working…) this is how I fixed it. The printer in question is not on a print server and also doesn’t have any capabilities to require a user to authenticate with it in order to use it.

If I click on Retry it will actually give me a username/password prompt but I have no idea what to type because I have no idea what it’s trying to authenticate with. How do I make it stop trying to authenticate with whatever?

What is the Mac trying to authenticate with? Most of the time when I install a printer on a Mac (download and install driver and then manually add the printer under Printers) and then try to print I wind up with “Hold for Authentication” and I would like to know the following: I see all the threads here about this and how just like all the ones I’ve found elsewhere none of them have solutions but since I don’t really see any other options for finding a solution I thought I would ask here anyway.
